Driven by the strong believe that LED will change the way we live and enhance our life style, Lite-On Electronics was established in 1975 in a small apartment by three founders. There they created another garage legend.
Lite-On was the first to produce LED. In the past 32 years since its inception, it has gone through three major changes. In 1983, Lite-On had its IPO and was the first technology company to be listed on Taiwan Exchange. In 2002, four public companies merged, including Lite-On Electronics, Lite-On Technology, Silitek and GVC, with the new entity become the new Lite-On Technology that we know today. The merger of four public companies was considered revolutionary in the history of the Taiwan equity market. In 2006, Lite-On implemented a re-organization to accommodate different strategies and goals for short term, mid-term and longer-term growth.
In the past two years, Lite-On Technology has been successful with its “Profitable Growth” strategy, focusing on the improvement of profitability rather than irrationally pursuing revenue increase. Product portfolio strategy change contributed to majority of the success as Lite-On Technology switched its focus on higher-margin, high-growth products including Imaging, Power Supply, Enclosure and LED, where the core of Lite-On Technology lies. More than 85% of Lite-On Technology’s revenue comes directly from globally leading products, among which many rank global top three, including optical disc drive, handset keypad, color image sensors, power supplies, etc.
The higher-margin, high-growth core products strategy is recognized, Lite-On Technology’s outstanding operating received overwhelming response and applause from foreign institutional investors. Lite-On Technology developed from LED and peripheral component, to become an international foreign company, the foreign shareholding increased to around 60% for the time being. Lite-On Technology was highly regarded and ranked in the Business Week and Forbes Magazine for “Information Technology 100” and “Asia’s Fabulous 50 Companies.” Company also earned worldwide recognition for its innovation as well as its globalization operating. In the past 4 years, Lite-On Technology received 19 awards from German iF and Red Dot, in addition to U.S. IDEA Awards. Winning the acknowledgement by these prestigious global awards not only was celebrated within Lite-On but also a glory for our country.
As a corporate citizen of Taiwan, Lite-On Technology has initiated numerous projects to make contributions back to the society and help grow its economy. Lite-On Awards, the annually held competition, not only encourages talents of industrial design to advance their creativity and innovation, it also promotes communication and idea exchange amongst them. Lite-On Awards since its inception has broadened its scope from a competition within Taiwan to one with participants from all over the world. In addition, Lite-On Cultural Foundation is entering its 15th year of sponsoring and promoting community service to help children, teenagers and minority group. Lite-On’s corporate culture - “Joy, Growth, Health, and Balance”, occurs to underline the same living attitude as a new life style originated from the western society, “LOHAS”, both are to encourage people to live a “Life Style of Health and Sustainability”. “LOHAS LITE-ON” becomes our brand new corporate image esteemed by the public. As a result, Lite-On has been awarded recognition for the “Corporate Social Responsibility Award” since 2005.
Looking forward, we are deploying the “Customer-Centric Growth Strategy” to initiate another growth cycle after the restructuring period in the last two years. In the upcoming two years, we aim to expand our product offering and add new customers. Lite-On Technology, in its day-to-day activities, demonstrates unwavering determination to build a truly world class excellent company.
